Bruce Springsteen claims Trump is operating a ‘rogue government’ and aligning with dictators.

Bruce Springsteen recently delivered several impactful speeches criticizing Donald Trump and labeling him “unqualified.” One notable speech took place on the Manchester stage, marking a significant cultural opposition to Trump and American lawmakers.

While introducing the song that inspired the tour’s title, he stated:

Later, while introducing “1000 Guitar Houses,” he remarked: “The last check, the final check after government checks and balances fail, is you and me. We are a coalition of people upholding the values that bridge democracy and authoritarianism.”

He followed this with a more extended speech before performing “My City.”

“There’s something very strange and dangerous happening. In America, people exercise their right to free speech but often face persecution for dissent. This is current. Meanwhile, the wealthiest abandon the world’s poorest children to illness and death. It’s happening now.

In my country, there seems to be a perverse delight in causing pain to loyal American workers. Historic civil rights laws are being rolled back, threatening fairness and diversity. We’re turning away from great allies, choosing to side with dictators instead of those who fight for freedom. Universities that resist ideological pressure are punished.

Residents are being removed from American streets, deported without due process. This is currently unfolding. Most elected officials are failing to protect the American people from unfit presidents and government overreach, seemingly unaware of what it means to be truly American.

The American dream has been sung about for 50 years. It’s a wonderful country with remarkable people, despite its flaws. We will endure this moment. I feel hopeful, inspired by the words of the great American writer James Baldwin, who said, ‘In this world, there may not be as much humanity as we wish, but it is enough.’ Let’s keep that in our prayers.”

Springsteen’s criticism of Trump dates back to his first term when he labeled him a “threat to our democracy.” A longstanding Democratic supporter, Springsteen has campaigned for Barack Obama and collaborated on a podcast with him. He also lent his support to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris during their campaign.

His comments often reflect the struggles of blue-collar workers, the scars of poverty, post-Vietnam trauma, and the social realities depicted in his songwriting. Springsteen has addressed significant national tragedies as well, contributing to the cultural dialogue around them.

Fans eagerly anticipate the release of “Tracks II: The Lost Albums” on June 27, which will feature seven LPs of previously unreleased songs recorded between 1983 and 2018.

The “Land of Hope and Dreams” tour continues in Manchester on May 17 and 20, with stops across Europe until early July.
