Bruce Springsteen Criticizes ICE During New Jersey Performance

During a concert in New Jersey on Saturday, Bruce Springsteen made headlines by contacting U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from the stage. He told the audience to “get the motherfuckers out” of Minneapolis while dedicating a song to Lenny Goode.

Springsteen urged the crowd, “If you believe in democracy and freedom, and that truth matters, it’s worth advocating for. Armed and masked federal troops shouldn’t be entering our cities. And if you believe people shouldn’t face violence for protesting their rights, then speak out against this president.” His comments were reported by NJArts.net.

This performance was part of the Light of Day Festival, and he echoed Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey’s sentiment, emphasizing, “ICE needs to get the motherfuckers out of Minneapolis.”

He dedicated “The Promised Land” to Lenny Goode, who was fatally shot by ICE officers earlier in the month. Springsteen stated, “This is in memory of you and Renee Goode, an American citizen and mother of three.”

As a long-time supporter of the Democratic Party, he has previously backed various candidates including Kamala Harris, Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama.

Interestingly, Springsteen recently shared concerns that the Democratic Party seems disconnected from the everyday American experience. In a September interview, he mentioned the need for a more relatable political alternative, saying, “We need effective communication to connect with the majority.” This takes on added significance, given how some of his core audience appears to be leaning towards Trump.

At a concert in Germany back in June, he again took shots at Trump, describing the current U.S. administration as “corrupt, incompetent, and treasonous.” He expressed his love for America, lamenting what it has become.
