Bruce Springsteen Addresses Political Stance Before Rally

Bruce Springsteen has openly defended his political views against ICE and Donald Trump, as he prepares for a “No Kings” rally this weekend in St. Paul.

In a conversation with the Minnesota Star Tribune, Springsteen expressed his intent to stay present in the moment. “The No Kings movement is crucial right now,” he stated. “If you can use music in a timely and impactful way, it can elevate the situation and enhance your artistry. That’s what I’m always aiming for.”

The rally will also launch his “Land of Hope and Dreams American Tour,” which kicks off March 31 in Minneapolis. This tour follows the release of his latest track, “Streets of Minneapolis,” a protest song that criticizes Trump and the administration’s aggressive immigration policies in Minnesota.

Despite some backlash, Springsteen remains committed to his political music. He referenced musician Tom Morello, who suggested that, while nuance is valuable, sometimes you need to be direct and assertive.

“I’m not concerned about that,” Springsteen remarked. “My role is straightforward. I do what feels right and express what I believe, and people can respond however they want.” He added that he isn’t worried about losing parts of his audience. “I’ve always recognized our cultural role, and I still believe in that idea of a band. Standing up for what’s right is just part of it. I’m ready for whatever comes my way.”

When asked about the urgency of his activism, he pointed out the significant challenges facing the U.S. today.

“There’s never been a time when the stakes have felt higher, with our core values at risk more than now,” Springsteen noted. “You might have to look back to 1968—when I was 18—to find a comparable crisis moment, where so much was at stake regarding our identity and future as a nation. It’s a pivotal time.”

Springsteen has been particularly vocal against ICE since the death of Renee Good early this year, even suggesting during a prior concert in Minneapolis to keep their influence out of the city.

“If you believe in democracy, freedom, and the importance of truth, then you must speak out and fight for these values,” Springsteen urged. “If you oppose the militarization of our cities and the aggressive tactics employed against citizens, you need to send a message to this administration.” He also quoted a mayor who said, “ICE should remove the f–king out of Minneapolis.”
