But Ohio State wasn't without its celebrity supporters, either.

Lakers superstar LeBron James was seen rocking Buckeyes gear in a luxury box, and Phillies star Bryce Harper was also on the field before the game.

Buckeyes legend and 1974 and 1975 Heisman Trophy winner Archie Griffin was also in attendance to support his alma mater, as was hip-hop star Travis Scott.

At Ohio State, Griffin rushed for 5,177 yards on 845 carries, not including bowl games.

Montana threw for 4,121 passing yards in three seasons at Notre Dame and led the Fighting Irish to a national championship in 1977.

Bettis had 1,912 rushing yards and 27 touchdowns in three seasons in South Bend and went on to star for the NFL's Steelers.

Bettis served as Notre Dame's honorary captain along with Ohio State's Griffin, was on the field for the pregame coin toss and recorded a video for social media.

“I'm here for the national convention. I'm waiting for the Irish to go to work,” Bettis said.

Gillis appeared on “College GameDay” prior to the Fighting Irish's College Football Playoff game against Indiana at Notre Dame Stadium.

The popular comedian joked on air that SEC teams pay their players and that the NIL rules help level the playing field, but this is what former Alabama coach and ESPN analyst 's Nick Saban and created an awkward moment on the set that followed.

Gillis was featured in a recent commercial for Under Armor, wishing the Fighting Irish a national championship.

“Hey God. I'm Shane. I know I haven't been here in a while, but I've been praying for you so much,” he said in the ad.

As the Buckeyes won their first national championship in 10 years, their prayers seemed unanswered as the Fighting Irish lost 34-23.
