Teddy Bridgewater’s NFL Comeback
Teddy Bridgewater is set to make a return to the NFL, as Tampa Bay Buccaneers General Manager Jason Licht confirmed plans to sign him. It appears that Bridgewater, who is 32 years old, has risen from his second retirement.
Despite the presence of quarterbacks Baker Mayfield and Kyle Trask on the roster, Licht noted that Bridgewater visited Tampa recently. While nothing is finalized, there is a clear intent to bring him on board.
Licht mentioned the value of having someone like Bridgewater in the team, emphasizing his experience and knowledge, which could indeed benefit the quarterbacks and the team as a whole.
Bridgewater’s role is expected to be that of a backup for Trask, though it seems competition for the position remains open.
The quarterback has had a decade-long career in the NFL, starting with the Minnesota Vikings, who drafted him in the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. Throughout his career, he also played for the New York Jets, New Orleans Saints, Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, and Miami Dolphins.
In 2023, Bridgewater initially announced his retirement but officially retired in early 2024. However, he made a comeback in December to join the Detroit Lions as they sought to make a playoff run. He has a record of 33 wins and 32 losses as a starter, with impressive statistics, including 15,120 passing yards, 75 touchdowns, and a passer rating of 90.5.
Recently, Bridgewater faced some controversy. He was suspended from coaching a former high school team for apparently providing financial benefits to players. He expressed his dissatisfaction with the suspension on social media, asserting, “I’m not going anywhere.”
