Three armed men broke into a Buddhist temple in Brooklyn on Sunday afternoon, stole handfuls of cash and fled.

The armed robbery occurred at Wat Samakki Dhamikaram, 26 Rugby Road, Flatbush, around 2:30 p.m.

The New York City Police Department said four monks were inside the temple when armed robbers broke into the back of the temple. At least one of the armed robbers pointed a gun at the monks and demanded they hand over money and property.

The trio, all believed to be male, fled on foot heading north on Rugby Road. The suspects were still on the run as of Sunday evening.

“The monks are very scared now. They are very scared,” said Kim Duong, 52. new york daily news. “We were lucky no one was hurt.”
