Bumbling drug dealer’s smuggling plan blows up in his face when he stashes meth, fentanyl in grenades

His drug smuggling plan really did fail.

A South Carolina drug dealer was sentenced to 18 years in prison this week for trying to transport methamphetamine and fentanyl inside hollowed-out grenades last spring.

Corey Gerald Bell, 36, was stopped in May 2023 by a Greenwood County Sheriff’s deputy who noticed Bell’s taillight was broken. According to WYFF 4 in Greenville.

Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals Attorney David M. Stumbo said in a news release that the deputy searched the vehicle after smelling marijuana, which remains illegal in the Palmetto State.

That’s when officers stumbled upon a bag containing 166 grams of methamphetamine and fentanyl pills packed inside a hollowed-out grenade, Stumbo told the station.

Bell pleaded guilty this week to trafficking methamphetamine and possession with intent to sell fentanyl, Stumbo said.

A circuit court judge on Monday sentenced him to 18 years in prison for his May 18 arrest.

“We will continue to send a clear message to local dealers of these deadly drugs that they will pay a high price if they choose to make a living off the suffering of their addicts,” Stumbo said.
