Bunny XO recently revealed some underlying issues that contributed to her split from Jelly Roll, which has sparked a lot of conversation online. The singer, known for “Son of a Sinner,” filed for divorce in Tennessee on May 18, naming May 9 as their separation date and citing irreconcilable differences.
Both Bunny XO and Jelly Roll, whose real name is Jason Deford, have worked hard to protect the details of their personal relationship, especially amidst swirling cheating rumors following their breakup. During a candid appearance on the Dumb Blonde podcast, Bunny opened up about recognizing red flags in their relationship while grappling with her past.
She shared, “We stopped communicating in the last year and a half. I’ve always loved my husband a bit more than he loves me.” She felt she had been the one holding everything together, always looking out for him and ensuring his well-being.
Reflecting on the dynamics of their relationship, she described herself as the “chaser” while Jelly Roll took on the role of the “runner.” Over the past year and a half, she sensed a lack of mutual investment and communication. “I stopped pursuing him,” she stated, noting how their focus seemed to drift apart amid their growing success in country music.
Bunny recalled their early days together, pointing out that they started from very little. There’s this perception that she was financially backing him from the start, but she clarified, “I had a sugar daddy at the time who paid for everything.” She didn’t claim to have been rolling in money herself; instead, she was working hard to manage life’s demands, including paying for legal fees and touring expenses.
“At the time, I was cheating and using money to pay my bills,” Bunny said, adding that their experiences as sex workers helped finance their lives back then. She indicated that it was overwhelming juggling work and their budding career, especially when more crowds began attending Jelly Roll’s shows as time went on.
Bunny had consistently described their journey as facing struggles together against the world, yet she admitted that dealing with infertility treatments took a significant emotional toll on both of them. “It’s one of the loneliest journeys you’ll ever go on,” she admitted, expressing empathy for other couples facing similar challenges. She emphasized that the frustrations and heartbreak woven into their IVF journey placed tremendous strain on their relationship.
Bunny explained, “Every time there was a setback, it felt like a heavy blow to our bond. We’ve been through a lot, and in some ways, we’re connected by trauma.” She expressed the confusion of watching others easily conceive while they faced hurdles despite their strong desire for a child.
Sources suggest the relationship has always been complicated, with plenty of ups and downs as they built a life together over the years. As Jelly Roll focuses on his health and future, it appears there hasn’t been a single turning point that led to their separation, but rather an accumulation of strains. He’s been on a weight loss journey since December 2022 and mentioned feeling a renewed sense of purpose.
Bunny, whose real name is Alisa Deford, married Jelly Roll in August 2016 after they met a year before. As part of that union, she stepped into the role of a stepmother to his daughter, Bailey, and son, Noah.
