Hollywood Burbank Airport’s Renovation Progress
After much anticipation, the $1.3 billion upgrade at Hollywood Burbank Airport is nearly complete. The new terminal project is expected to wrap up by October 13, as per the latest updates from construction officials.
This revamped passenger terminal will bring significant enhancements for travelers. Among the improvements are updated TSA security checkpoints, larger gate areas, and a wider selection of dining options.
Originally established in 1930, BUR has been somewhat outdated in terms of safety and accessibility standards. Airport officials are enthusiastic about the recent renovations, stating that the new facility will increase the distance between the terminal and the runway, while adhering to updated seismic codes and ADA requirements.
Passengers can look forward to a spacious 45,900-square-foot boarding area, a state-of-the-art parking garage equipped with electric vehicle charging stations, and an upgraded access road.
The facility will have two floors and a basement, offering a total of 355,000 square feet to accommodate the airport’s 14 gates. Additionally, a new ticketing lobby, check-in counters, baggage storage, and various shopping outlets are in the pipeline.
This renovation, which was initially announced in 2023, officially broke ground in December of that year and is being managed by the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority. A collaborative effort involving several companies ensures that the project is executed smoothly.
Once the new terminal opens, the long-standing existing terminal will be demolished, effectively closing a chapter in the airport’s history as travelers transition to the modernized facilities.
