Bureau of Indian Affairs special unit investigates South Dakota military base murder

The special unit, which began as a cold case task force, helped to secure murder charges against active aviators who were recently accused of killing a missing Native American woman.

Sanglade told Chapelle he would be going to Colorado on September 27th for Arroyo's son's birth, her sister said. However, it is unclear whether Chappelle has learned about her plan to stay in Colorado.

“She's never been on a plane,” Arroyo said. “It was really tough. I thought she had chosen not to come anymore. Unfortunately, it wasn't.”

The body of Sanglait, abandoned in a wooded area near the Line in Pennington and Custer County, was discovered by hikers on March 4th, about seven months after her loss of disappearance.

Attorney Gina Ruggieri, who filed a notice stating that she would represent Chapelle on behalf of the pre-appointed official defender, did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital's request for comment.

Fort Ellsworth said it is working closely with local law enforcement agencies.

Wimble, who said she spoke to Sangreit every day, explained that she was one of the strongest people she knows.

“She was one of the most resilient people I knew,” Wimble said. “You could knock her down, like a bowling pin, she would stand up every time. … She was so strong, she knew herself more than anyone else. She was the kindest person I knew, especially with everything she had experienced… she was everything to me.
