Burglar steals money and baubles from posh UWS pad

Police said Saturday that burglars broke into a luxury Upper West Side high-rise apartment on Thanksgiving Day and stole a safe containing nearly $400,000 in cash and jewelry in the early morning hours.

Police say the crooks broke through a door at 75 West End Avenue around 12:15 a.m., smashed the door frame and stole a safe containing about $220,000 in cash and $160,000 in baubles.

Police officials said the robbers also took three Goyard pouches worth a total of $6,000 and seven pairs of Louis Vuitton sneakers worth about $7,700.

Small handmade Goyard bags can cost as much as $2,000 each.

According to police sources, a friend of the resident in the unit had been staying there for about a month, but was out at the time of the break-in. It is unclear how the robbers got into the 39-story building, which has a doorman.

Police said investigators are reviewing security video.

Lawyer Anjoli Mitra, who lives in the building, said he was surprised that the robbers had managed to get through security.

“I was surprised because it's a safe building,” said the 34-year-old.

“We have a team of security and doormen. A lot of people live and work in this building.”

She is wary of walking in the area at night and uses car services.

“It's okay to walk down West End Avenue, but the side streets are especially West 63rd, West 64th and West 65th. I don't want to walk there late at night,” she said.

“I pay a lot of rent because I have to drive home late at night.”

Isaac Saidmail, 62, said he and his wife are nervous about crime in their neighborhood.

“It's happening more and more,” he said.

“It's scary. When my wife says things like this to me, she comes home upset.”

“I would like to see more police officers on the streets.”
