Burgum endorses Trump for president

North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum (R) endorsed former President Donald Trump as a presidential candidate on Sunday after withdrawing from the presidential race last month.

“But four years ago, I was speaking on behalf of President Trump at the Iowa caucuses in Sioux City, and today I want to do something that no other presidential primary candidate has done. I'm here, and that means supporting Donald J. Trump for president of the United States,'' Burgum said at a pro-Trump rally in Indianola, Iowa.

The North Dakota governor launched a strong bid for the White House last year, but called off his 2024 Republican presidential bid last month after failing to average 1 to 2 percentage points in polls. Burgum qualified for the first two Republican National Committee (RNC) primary debates last year, but was unable to qualify for the third debate last November. There wasn't.

In his speech of support, he praised President Trump's economic, border and energy policies.

“I've seen President Trump and what he's done. I've seen it both as a business leader and as a governor. When I first took office, President Obama was still president. “So we've seen the difference that President Trump makes. Trying to work with his administration was a huge failure,” Burgum said.

“Then President Trump took office, and everything changed. States like Iowa, states like North Dakota, states like the core states, we were respected. We had friends and friends in the White House. “We had a partner who understood us and wanted our state to succeed instead of being put out of business by regulation,” he said.
