Authorities Seek Suspect in Attempted Murder of Businessman in Michigan
In Macomb County, Michigan, officials are on the hunt for a suspect linked to the attempted murder of a well-known businessman, who barely escaped death during a midday attack outside his home on Tuesday morning.
The shooting took place at around 10:18 a.m. on October 14, as Eddie Jawad was leaving his gated residence located on 24 Mile Road near Wellington Valley Drive in Macomb Township. The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) reports that the assailant had observed the area for over an hour prior to the incident.
“He was ambushed,” said Macomb County Attorney Peter Lucido. “They waited for him and began firing at his car as he exited the driveway. This happened in broad daylight, right where his family is. Truly, he’s fortunate to be alive.”
Surveillance footage captured the suspect near the intersection of 24 Mile and Wellington Valley at 8:22 a.m., shortly before entering the property around 9:30 a.m. During the ambush, Jawad was grazed by a bullet but managed to survive.
The shooter reportedly fled eastward on 24 Mile Road in a black Ford Escape from 2020-2022, which had stolen license plates. Descriptions of the suspect point to a thin black male, approximately 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall.
Those with any information regarding the case are encouraged to contact the MCSO Detective Bureau at 586-307-9358.
Lucido, who considers Jawad a close friend, noted the businessman’s remarkable resilience in the aftermath of the attack.
“Eddie went home that night, enjoyed dinner with his family, and resumed work the very next morning,” Lucido mentioned. “This resilience isn’t just a part of him—it’s something he embodies. The good Lord spared him, and he’s ready to keep doing what he does.”
Jawad owns the Pit Stop Gas Stations and Convenience Stores, which boasts over 20 locations across Michigan and is involved in various sectors, including restaurants and real estate development.
Lucido praised Jawad as a self-made entrepreneur, embodying local success. “He’s a community guy,” said Lucido. “He started out working at a gas station. Now, look where he is—with maybe 30, even 40 gas stations. He works hard, takes his commitments seriously, and really gives it his all.”
According to Lucido, Jawad is an honest individual who isn’t shy to express his beliefs, emphasizing his dedication to the local community.
Lucido described the ambush as particularly alarming due to the peaceful, upscale neighborhood where Jawad resides. “This isn’t a dark alley at night. It’s a serene, family-friendly area where people expect safety and peace,” he remarked.
Investigators are currently analyzing neighborhood doorbell and surveillance videos. Lucido expressed confidence that they will apprehend the assailant.
“There’s absolutely no tolerance for violence in Macomb County,” he asserted. “If there’s a disagreement, deal with it in court. Attempting to take someone’s life is just unacceptable. Whoever did this will face the full weight of the law.”
Lucido also stressed the commitment of his office to combat violent crime.
Describing Jawad’s survival as “nothing short of miraculous,” Lucido reflected on the events of the attack. “Watching the video, it’s impressive how he escaped death. He’s literally a walking miracle,” he stated.
The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office continues its investigation, with Lucido confident that justice will be served. “Eddie is fortunate to be alive,” he concluded. “This kind of violence has no place in Macomb County or anywhere else.”
