A confrontation over a seemingly trivial debate about luxury cars escalated tragically when a buyer shot a seller on Facebook Marketplace.
Omar Brogdon, 31, received a life sentence without the possibility of parole last week in Michigan for killing Orhan Hosic, a 38-year-old married salesman who had lost sight in one eye due to childhood cancer, as reported by MLive.
Dramatic testimony in the courtroom included Hosic’s stepmother addressing Brogdon directly, stating, “You shot him out of the only eye he could see.” Her words echoed the gravity of the loss.
“This is something you have to live with for the rest of your life,” she added, highlighting the irreversible nature of the tragedy.
According to police, Brogdon traveled to Hosic’s home in Fenton Township in July 2024, intending to buy two Corvette seats, which were later discovered in his orange Camaro.
However, the transaction turned fatal as a heated argument erupted over whether BMW or Mercedes-Benz produced superior vehicles.
Authorities found Hosic deceased at the bottom of his garage stairs, suffering from several gunshot wounds.
Brogdon was apprehended two weeks later, with forensic evidence linking his gun to the crime scene, as well as bloody footprints and possession of the victim’s mobile phone.
During his defense, Brogdon claimed he acted in self-defense. “It was an unfortunate incident. I was scared. I was cornered,” he shared with the judge during his sentencing.
In April, he was found guilty of second-degree murder, felony murder, armed robbery, and three counts of firearm use during a felony.
Following the verdict, Genesee County Attorney David Layton expressed relief, stating, “Justice was served for Mr. Hosic today. We hope this allows his grieving family and friends to begin the long journey toward closure in this sad and tragic case.”
