By Comparing Melania to Harris, Trump Was ‘Objectifying’ the Vice President

Former White House adviser Susan Rice said on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Report” on Tuesday that former President Donald Trump’s comments that Kamala Harris resembles his wife, Melania Trump, during an interview with Elon Musk on Monday night’s “X” were an “attempt to belittle and objectify the vice president.”

“During a conversation with Elon Musk last night, Donald Trump repeatedly attacked Kamala Harris’ policies, but seemed intent on complimenting her appearance, even going so far as to compare his Democratic opponent’s new cover illustration to his own wife, Melania Trump,” Mitchell said.

Of X, Trump said, “She was a lot like the great First Lady, Melania. She didn’t look like Kamala, that’s right. Of course, she’s a beautiful woman and I’ll leave it at that.”

“What do you think he’s trying to accomplish?” Mitchell asked.

“I think this is all part of a strategy where he has always belittled and objectified all women,” Rice said. “Donald Trump has no respect for women. It’s not just in his DNA and the way he’s treated women at every stage of his life, personally and professionally, it’s at the root of his policy approach.”

She added: “He addresses this by belittling, degrading and objectifying his opponents.”
