Byron Donalds criticizes Democrat David Jolly as a 'Radical Leftist Against Trump'

Election Update: David Jolly’s Governor Bid Draws Criticism

In response to David Jolly’s announcement for the Florida governor’s race, Rep. Byron Donald (R-FL) called him an “anti-Trump radical left.” Jolly, a former Republican House member who has shifted to independence and now identifies as a Democrat, made his campaign official this week.

Jolly emphasized a desire to unite Florida’s voters, stating, “Let’s end the politics of division and bring Florida back to just a voter who wants a working economy, the world’s best education system, a safe community, and a government that avoids decisions from doctors’ offices and families.”

Donald wasted no time in attacking his opponent. He claimed, “David Jolly is an anti-Trump radical left who wants to raise your taxes, allow illegals to cross our borders, restrict family choices, ban guns, and introduce woke ideology to Florida.” He believes that Florida remains loyal to Trump and expressed confidence in his own candidacy for governor, asserting, “As governor, I will protect Florida’s families alongside President Trump and make America great again.”

Ryan Smith, Donald’s chief strategist, dismissed Jolly as “a failed politician, lobbyist, and MSNBC commentator.” He suggested that Jolly’s switch from Republican to independent Democrat aligns him with other unsuccessful candidates, calling him “The Next Charlie Crist.”

Before Jolly’s announcement, Florida Republicans had already voiced criticism. Florida GOP president Evan Power noted Jolly’s inconsistent positions over the years, asserting that under Republican leadership, Florida enjoys low inflation and a robust economy. He stated, “David Jolly has lost before, but he’ll lose again. Floridians don’t trust smooth opportunists who simply can’t be trusted. Jolly has no platform, no base, or chance in Florida.”
