Byron Donald Critiques Senate’s Inaction on SAVE America Act
During a segment on FBN’s “Mornings with Maria,” Florida gubernatorial candidate Rep. Byron Donald (R-Fla.) expressed his frustration with the U.S. Senate’s lack of action regarding the “SAVE America Act.” He described some groups as “lazy” for not advancing the legislation.
Host Maria Bartiromo brought up President Trump’s meeting with the Senate, mentioning his stance on the bill. She asked about the implications of Cynthia Lummis’s comments regarding the necessity of proving citizenship for voting, questioning whether the SAVE America Act could be advanced in other ways.
Donald responded, “It’s great to see you again, Maria. To be honest, I’m frustrated with the United States Senate. While I respect members like Cynthia Lummis, I feel that the Senate as a whole is not doing its job. They seem to just sit around, which is why many of us support ending the Senate filibuster. It leads to more obstruction rather than constructive debate.”
“Let’s be clear,” he added. “If Democrats were genuinely concerned about securing elections, the SAVE America Act would have been passed long ago. It’s common sense—80% of Americans want voter ID measures to ensure only citizens can vote. Now, as the Senate faces pressure, there’s suddenly talk of doing something, but really, they aren’t taking any action. This lack of progress frustrates many in the House.”
Donald continued, “If they want to start with voter ID, that’s acceptable, but action is essential. Right now, the Senate seems to be wasting time, only waiting for the last minute to throw something back to the House, expecting them to solve the issue. This is simply unacceptable. My colleagues and I are fed up, and it’s crucial for the American people to realize that the Senate’s inaction impacts us negatively.”
