Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese Rivalry Smashes WNBA Viewership Records

The rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese broke WNBA viewership records, and the most recent game between the Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky became the most-watched game of all time.

“The Indiana Fever’s 91-83 victory over the Chicago Sky on Sunday was the league’s most-watched game in more than two decades.” Daily Mail“This highly anticipated matchup averaged 2.25 million viewers, a 225% increase over last season’s average game.”

The big game was tuned in by nearly 3 million households, breaking a 23-year viewership record, and was the most-streamed WNBA game in Paramount+ history.

Rookie superstar Caitlin Clark lived up to expectations during the game, scoring 23 points, 9 assists and 8 rebounds. Viewers hoping to see the rivalry between Clark and Reese heat up got exactly that in the third quarter when Reese hit Clark in the head diving for the basket. Reese was assessed a flagrant 1 point for a clear foul, which she protested.

“I thought we played really hard inside,” Reese said. Said After the game, he said: “I think we came out really strong and we had a lot of calls that didn’t come through. And looking back at the film, there were a lot of things that didn’t get called. I think some guys got special whistles, but we just played our best.”

“I’m proud of Camila for going out there and getting a double-double. No matter what the officiating is, you guys can’t stop that. We’ve been here a while. No matter what you guys do, we won’t be stopped. Our goal is to win, we’ll do whatever it takes to win and we’re going to keep doing that,” she added.

ESPN analyst Stephen A. Smith supported the Flagrant 1 call.

“I’ll say it: That was a basketball play,” Smith told ESPN. First Take On Monday. “Yes, Angel Reese is right.”

“But what they did with her, in that they upgraded it to a 1, is exactly what they NBA “She may be upset about it but it’s a blow to the head and that’s what they do in this day and age. It’s the right decision,” he added.

As Breitbart News reported earlier this month, rookie star Kaitlyn Clark has made such an impression on the WNBA that ratings and attendance have risen to record numbers in the first month of the new season. Nationwide, WNBA arenas reached 94% attendance, and an average of 1.32 million people tuned in to watch WNBA games across major networks ABC, ESPN, ESPN2 and CBS. Last year alone, the WNBA averaged 462,000 viewers.
