Caitlin Clark at center of another awkward question before WNBA preseason debut

Caitlin Clark started her professional basketball career with an awkward exchange at an Indiana Fever press conference, and before the first preseason game, it looked like it was happening all over again.

While speaking with reporters before the game against the Dallas Wings, Clark was asked if “Bey” would be in the game.

“No, he’s working,” Clark said, and the rest of the group laughed. “I play solo. I better get used to it. I’m a professional. That’s my job.”

“Bae” is synonymous with significant other or boyfriend/girlfriend. Clark is dating former Iowa men’s basketball player Connor McCaffrey. The two recently celebrated their one-year anniversary.

The Fever Star then scored 21 points in a 79-76 preseason loss.

“My biggest goal tonight was to continue to be myself, enjoy basketball and be aggressive. That’s what I thought I did. So, I think so.” [I have] There’s a lot to be proud of,” Clark told reporters after the game.

The pregame exchange came weeks after Clark had a bizarre exchange with Indy Star columnist Greg Doyle. Before he could question her, he made a heart with her hands.

Clark asked Doyle if he liked it and he replied, “I like it when you’re here.”

Clark said he makes that gesture with his hands to his family “after every game.”

“If you start doing that to me, we’ll get along,” Doel replied.

He later apologized for his role in the bizarre moment.
