Caitlin Clark confronts officials after a disputed no-call leads to Fever’s defeat against Liberty

Clark’s Frustration in Narrow Loss

Caitlyn Clark faced a tough loss with the Indiana Fever, who fell 90-88 to the Liberty. The game ended in controversy as Clark was adamant about a no-call during the last play when she was stopped by Natasha Cloud.

Right after the final buzzer, Clark approached the referee, appearing to express disbelief, likely saying something like, “You must be kidding me, right?” This incident took place with just 2.9 seconds left in the game when Clark received an inbound pass and found herself closely guarded by Cloud.

As Clark attempted to drive towards the basket, contact occurred, and she tried to draw a foul. However, the referee didn’t make a call, allowing the Liberty to secure the win as the ball slipped away.

Clark’s frustration was shared by her teammate Sophie Cunningham, who also had an exchange with the officials. After the play, Clark followed the referee into the half court, seemingly inquiring about the call while surrounded by booing fans.

The referee and Clark had a brief confrontation before team staff stepped in to support her. Despite the disappointment, she eventually rejoined her teammates for a post-game huddle.

In the aftermath, Clark didn’t provide extensive commentary as she hadn’t reviewed the game’s replay. However, Fever head coach Stephanie White stated that Cloud had indeed fouled Clark before time ran out, voicing her broader concerns about officiating this season.

“What’s happening with our team in the last few games is pretty bad,” White noted. “The disparity in free throws… the lack of respect for our team is astounding. It’s unfortunate that it doesn’t go both ways.”

The Fever have started the season at 2-2, with both losses coming in tight situations. Clark has been performing well, averaging 19 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 9.3 assists this season.
