During a recent appearance in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, Mariners player Cal Laurie, often called the “big damper,” signed something quite peculiar. A little league player presented him with a toilet seat to autograph just before the MLB Little League Classic.
Without any delay, Laurie agreed and signed the highly unusual item, much to the delight of the young fans around. It was, perhaps, a light-hearted moment in a day full of excitement.
As he signed, Laurie appeared to share a laugh about it with the officials nearby, clearly finding the situation amusing.
A notable part of Laurie’s time in Williamsport was his custom chest protector, which featured images of his Mariners teammates from their Little League days.
The toilet seat likely reflects Laurie’s nickname, stemming from his, well, prominent backside.
He seems to embrace this moniker, even collaborating with a portable hygiene service for a promotional agreement. One of the highlights of his weekend included a custom bat that humorously featured phrases like “big damper” and “big butt… a big bomb.”
Such phrases feel quite fitting given Laurie’s impressive season, including earning his first career All-Star selection and smashing 47 home runs.
Despite the Mariners experiencing a rough patch lately, losing three out of their last four games, Laurie’s contributions have been significant as they navigated their way in the AL West.
