Calais Campbell's mother discovered dead in her Atlanta residence, brother Ciarre Campbell accused of murder

The brother of Baltimore Ravens player Calais Campbell has been arrested for murder following the discovery of their mother’s body in Atlanta.

Seventy-one-year-old Natal Campbell was found unresponsive in her townhouse located in an upscale area of Buckhead, Georgia, during a welfare check on Tuesday afternoon.

The family expressed their sorrow, stating, “We are devastated by the loss of Mrs. Natal Campbell, the matriarch of our family.” They added that while the circumstances surrounding her death are still being looked into, they find some comfort in knowing she is now with their father and their beloved Chuck, in the presence of their Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. They’ve requested privacy as they navigate their grief.

Worrying concerns from relatives led them to call police to a residence on Roswell Road shortly after 12:30 p.m. An official from the Atlanta police shared this information.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a man barricaded inside the home and had to force their way in to take him into custody. However, at that moment, they did not reveal his identity.

Later, Chiale Campbell, 41, was named as the suspect and taken in, identified as the brother of the NFL player. He had been previously a football player at Colorado State University and was booked into Fulton County Jail on Wednesday morning.

He faces charges including murder, aggravated assault, and possession of a weapon during a felony, as indicated by jail records.

Currently, only basic information regarding the alleged murder has been disclosed by the authorities.

Chiale Campbell’s attorney indicated to WSB-TV that police had secured a search warrant for the home, including items like clothing and DNA.

Previously, there had been police visits to Natal Campbell’s home concerning Chiale Campbell’s mental health issues. According to Lieutenant Christopher Butler, “There was a call back in April regarding a possible arson incident at this location, indicating that there might be mental health concerns.”

It isn’t clear if Chiale Campbell was residing with their mother at the time of the incident.

Calais Campbell, who was drafted in the second round in 2008 from the University of Miami, has made six Pro Bowl appearances and currently ranks third among active NFL players in sacks.

He was honored as the 2025 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year for his efforts in establishing the Charles Richard Campbell Foundation with his mother and siblings, aimed at empowering communities by teaching adolescents valuable life skills.
