Game Summary: Bears vs. Bengals

During the first quarter of Sunday’s game against the Cincinnati Bengals, Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson took a deep dive into his playbook. The Bears found themselves defending their 2-yard line when he decided to call a trick play.

Quarterback Caleb Williams received a pass that he quickly relayed to wide receiver Rome Odunze, who then tossed it to DJ Moore. Moore, with an open lane, threw the ball back to Williams, who was in the end zone for a touchdown. This marked both Williams’ first career reception and his first touchdown catch, leveling the score at 7–7.

The Bears’ touchdown came as a response to a powerful play by the Bengals. Following a kickoff return, Cincinnati’s Charlie Jones made a significant impact by taking a kick from Cairo Santos at the 2-yard line and sprinting 98 yards for a touchdown. Impressively, Jones reached a top speed of 31.78 mph during the return, as reported by NFL Next Gen Stats.

Both teams were looking to secure a win to improve their chances for the playoffs, with the Bengals trying to maintain ground in the AFC North even without their starting quarterback, Joe Burrow, who was injured. Joe Flacco and Jake Browning stepped in as replacements during the game.

At this point in the season, the Bears held a 4-3 record and were positioned third in the NFC North, with hopes of making the postseason still alive despite being behind the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions.
