California Parent Criticizes New Bill Supporting Immigrants

A California mother, known for her advocacy on behalf of those affected by illegal immigration, recently expressed her outrage towards a new proposal backed by Democrats and Governor Gavin Newsom. The bill in question would allocate taxpayer money to provide legal defense for illegal immigrants facing deportation.

Agnes Giboney, whose son Ronald was tragically killed by an illegal immigrant, spoke out in an interview, asserting that the proposal demonstrates a troubling priority: putting undocumented immigrants ahead of American citizens. “My son was killed,” she said. “Not one politician has ever contacted me and said, ‘I’m so sorry that a previously deported criminal illegal alien shot and killed your son.’ Not one of them.” Her disappointment is palpable and, perhaps, indicative of a broader sentiment among those who have suffered similar losses.

Giboney recounted her attempts to reach out to Governor Newsom after her son’s death in 2022, emphasizing that despite sending numerous emails, she received no acknowledgment or response from either his office or the governor himself. This lack of communication further fuels her frustration.

The legislation, introduced by Democratic Representative Mia Bonta, aims to provide legal representation for immigrants in deportation proceedings, prioritizing those currently detained. The bill has already passed through two congressional policy committees and is now under consideration by the Congressional Appropriations Committee.

Giboney characterized the proposal as “insane,” highlighting California’s substantial debt, estimated between $300 billion and $400 billion. “How is that possible? How much can they squeeze out of our people?” she questioned, demonstrating her concern for the fiscal responsibility of the state.

She continued, “We have the highest taxes in the entire country, the highest cost of living, and the most homelessness. We’re number one in everything, but we’re never number one in the good and always number one in the bad. Taxpayers keep paying more each year, only for the government—especially Gavin Newsom—to squander our money on illegal aliens.” Her remarks reflect a growing disaffection with government priorities and spending.
