California cops to auction off bongs seized from cannabis shops

Pipes, furniture, electronics and other items seized from marijuana stores will be auctioned off Friday in the parking lot of the California Highway Patrol’s Los Angeles headquarters.

This public auction will be the first to be hosted by the California Department of Taxation and Fees Administration in partnership with CHP.

All cannabis-related products come from 10 cannabis businesses that have filed for bankruptcy in the past few months.

Only one of the stores was a legitimate business, but it was raided on suspicion of tax evasion.

“Seizing and auctioning property from cannabis businesses that are circumventing the law is a tool to recover taxes owed to the state,” said CDTFA Director Nick Maduros. said in a statement.

Among the items up for grabs are crowd control poles, cannabis production equipment, and, of course, Lots of bongs.

Less nefarious supplies such as snow cone machines, framed art and other office supplies will also be auctioned off.

Each item is sold “as is” to the highest bidder.

According to CDTFA, the proceeds from the auction will be applied to debts owed by each of the 10 debtors.

Despite legalizing marijuana in 2018, California still struggles with a thriving underground market, including unlicensed cultivation operations, reckless robberies from legal businesses, and clandestine illegal shipments to out-of-state businesses. .

Last month, the bodies of six men were discovered in the Mojave Desert, a violent killing that authorities believe stemmed from an illegal marijuana trade gone bad.
