On Friday, Rep. Dave Minh (D-CA) stated that “toxic violence” stemmed from the “radical right” following the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk.
Minh insisted that the suspect, 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, was associated with the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement.
In a social media update, Democrats commented: “With the identification of Charlie Kirk’s assassin as part of the MAGA group, Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and other extreme GOP figures should focus on stopping the toxic violence from the radical right.”
Min faced significant backlash for his assertion, with one user remarking, “I think it’s incredible, but Democrats have shown time and again they’ll stoop to anything, even assassinations and baseless claims.”
Another commenter stated, “I disagree with Min. Nice try, though,” placing further doubt on his position.
On a different note, Christian Martinez, a spokesperson for the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), criticized Minh, calling him a “liar.”
Martinez explained, “Dave Min, reckless in his conspiracy theories, is just exploiting tragedy for political gain. He’s not just misleading; he’s a disgrace to lawmakers and a distraction from his own faults. Californians deserve better.”
Reportedly, actor George Takei also perpetuated the misinformation that Kirk’s alleged killer was driven by right-wing beliefs.
The shooter was described by a high school friend as having a family that was “very intense Republican,” and he had become increasingly extreme in his views, often expressing anger and engaging in arguments.
One of the inscriptions found on the ammunition case linked to Tyler Robinson referenced the song “Bella Ciao,” a popular anthem among anti-fascist groups, according to reports from Breitbart News.
After Kirk’s murder, President Donald Trump addressed the situation, recalling his own experiences with two assassination attempts in 2024. He stated: “It’s been too long since Americans and the media confronted the reality that violence is often a result of demonizing those we disagree with in the worst possible way. For years, radical leftists have compared honorable figures like Charlie to Nazis and the most notorious criminals. Such rhetoric is inevitably linked to the violence we experience today and must cease immediately.”
Kirk was tragically shot on Wednesday while speaking at Utah Valley University, an incident that has left many around the world mourning the loss of this advocate for free speech, although some on the left have reportedly celebrated his death.
