The California Sheriff's deputy was killed after his police cruiser split twice after a collision with another vehicle during the pursuit.
San Bernardino County Deputy Hector Quevas Jr., 36, was pursuing a stolen vehicle “terrifying, on-service traffic accident” unfolded Monday, when San Bernardino County deputy Hector Quevas Jr. was pursuing a stolen vehicle, according to San Bernardino Sheriff Shannon Dikas.
“There's really no word to describe this tragedy. Hector is the type of law enforcement officer we all want. He is an epic, great guardian and great father, and we suffer from his losses and will support his family for quite some time,” Dicus said.
“Hector is a man of a venerable family and was told by his law enforcement partner as a cop who can deal with the most hardcore gang members and talk to the kids and make sure they know they're safe and protected,” he added.

Images taken at the scene by Fox11 Los Angeles showed that the police cruiser was severely damaged and split in half after the crash.
Dykas said Quebus is a six-year law enforcement veteran assigned to Victorville station. He leaves behind his wife, two children, parents, a sibling and a sister.
“On Monday, March 17, 2025, at about 10:58am, a deputy at Victorville Station observed a stolen vehicle near Mojave Drive and Amargosa Road in Victorville. The deputies attempted to stop traffic, but Ryan Turner made no concession and failed to pursue.

“During the pursuit, Vice-Chairman Hector Quebus was involved in a traffic collision with another vehicle. It was declared that Quebus succumb to his injuries and died at the scene,” he added. “The female driver in the other vehicle was taken to hospital due to non-life-threatening injuries. Turner stopped the vehicle at Elvad Road and Zni Lane and escaped on foot. Turner was then caught and taken into custody.”
Police say Turner was charged with car manslaughter while drunk, failing to cause death or serious injury.

Daikas told reporters Monday night that Turner was arrested for evading Rialto police previously, and that a former law enforcement cruiser had clashed with a civilian.
