California doctor refuses to move from cliffside mansion despite warning it could slide into the ocean

Three multi-million dollar homes perched on the edge of a cliff in Southern California have been deemed safe to live in, even though a landslide caused much of the cliff to collapse from beneath them.

The historic storm that flooded the Golden State earlier this month has left a Dana Point mansion in a precarious position, at risk of falling into the Pacific Ocean.

The most expensive home in the waterfront complex is a $15.9 million, four-bedroom property listed by Louis Bruggeman, 82, a local radiologist, records show.

Experts say properties along the Dana Point bluffs are safe to live in for now, but more work is needed to withstand future storms.

“It’s going to take a lot of work to stabilize that property,” said Kyle Tourget, executive vice president of Alpha Structural, a Los Angeles engineering firm. he told the Washington Post.

“The damage has gotten worse, and we expect more severe damage to come. During years of heavy saturation, these homes, these properties, could withstand this kind of blow. You can not.”

Powerful storms have caused numerous landslides across Southern California this year.
