California ends transgender crusade against city over parental notification rights: ‘This is a major win’

Custody defenders declare victory after California Attorney General Rob Bonta I declined Appeal the ruling in favour of a gender notification policy implemented by the local school district.

California officials are trying to force local officials to succumb to the transgender agenda by denying their right to a parent's gender notification, with some cities deciding to fight back.

“School districts cannot argue that they will be sued for adopting a parental notification policy.”

“The decision effectively ends the state's legal challenges to districts and marks a major shift in the fight over public school parental rights,” read a statement from the California Family Council.

The Chino Valley Unified School District was the first in California to implement a gender parental notice policy in August 2023. The policy required that the school be notified if a child requested that their name, pronoun, or gender identity be changed.

Bonta filed a lawsuit against Chino Valley but lost a ruling from San Bernardino County Superior Court, California in September 2024. They had the right to know if the child's school records had changed.

Transgender activists argue that parents' notification rights place students at risk of abuse from their parents, but critics say they care for their children and from other students and teachers. It is said that it is necessary to maintain the ability of parents to prevent social pressure.

Democrat California Gov. Gavin Newsom has signed a law defending school districts to notify parents about their child's gender choices.

“This is a huge victory for parents' rights and common sense,” said Greg Burt, Vice President of the Family Council of California. “The district cannot argue that it will be sued for adopting a parent's notification policy. It appears that Bonta has given up on that reasoning line. Currently, all California districts follow Chino Valley leads and have children. You need to ensure that parents are kept in loops when they are socially transitioning in schools.”

Despite the victory in California, the parental rights movement was also hit in Massachusetts after an appeals court ruled against parents in a similar case Tuesday. The couple sued school officials after ignoring their parents' instructions about the 11-year-old girl and continuing to praise and support her decision to change gender.
