Authorities say a California fire chief was killed at her San Diego area home Monday night after she was repeatedly stabbed at a possible domestic violence attack.
Rebecca Malody, a 49-year-old firefighter, was found with multiple wounds after San Diego County Sheriff's officials arrived at Ramona's home around 9pm. The agency said in a news release.
She was declared dead at the scene.
“Investigators suspect that the victim knows the perpetrator and is treating the incident as a potential domestic violence case,” the sheriff's office said.
Motivations and further information regarding Malodi's death remain unknown.
Authorities have not announced the arrest of the suspect Wednesday night.
Malody worked for the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection for over 30 years, and worked in Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego counties.
“It is a great sadness that Cal Fire is reporting the unjust death of Firefighter Captain Rebecca 'Becky' Malody,” the department said. This week's statement. “The tragic loss of Captain Malody is mourned by her family, friends and her Calfire family.”

“They're mowing, they're doing wood, they're gardening… you know what's usual,” Monica Evans said. “I've never seen the problem.”
Riverside Sheriff's official, along with Cal Fire, said in a joint statement Tuesday that Malodi's death was a “deep loss” for her loved ones and colleagues.
“Her legacy of mentoring, service and dedication will be felt for years to come,” the two departments said.
