California gardener finds Russian-style grenades in bushes

Authorities launched an investigation after a gardener working near Los Angeles on Thursday found four grenades in some bushes.

The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Bomb Disposal Unit was called to the scene after a gardener in Baldwin Park, California, reported finding an explosive device along Merced Avenue.

The Baldwin Park Police Department told Fox News Digital the grenade was determined to be Russian-made, but did not provide further details.

The LASD said its bomb squad seized the grenade and made it safe, and authorities declared the alert over and reopened the street and neighborhood.

LASD Sergeant Jose Eguia He told FOX 11 The grenade was a Russian-style F-1 grenade.

Eguia tested all four explosive devices and determined three of them to be safe, but the fourth was determined to be a functioning explosive device.

The FBI’s Los Angeles office told Fox News Digital they are working with the LAPD and Baldwin Park Police Department to investigate the source of the grenade.

Baldwin Park is about 20 miles east of Los Angeles.
