Newsom Suggests 25th Amendment for Trump’s Removal
California Governor Gavin Newsom has publicly proposed using the 25th Amendment to remove President Donald Trump from office, labeling him as “mentally ill” after Trump made comments regarding Los Angeles and San Diego earlier this week.
Newsom remarked, “Donald Trump is mentally ill. TIME FOR THE 25TH!” as reported by various media outlets.
The governor’s latest criticisms arose after a rally in Nebraska where clips of Trump went viral, implying he suggested that the Iranian regime could target an American city.
In the related comments, Trump stated, “They can take out a city. Let them take—let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego. This is a very small price to pay, and it’s going to be over with very soon,” according to reports.
However, many believe these comments were misinterpreted, asserting that Trump was actually discussing the burden of high gas prices as a minor sacrifice for peace, explaining a scenario where a nuclear-capable Iran could potentially devastate U.S. cities, but he was not advocating for such an outcome.
Trump’s Rapid Response account sought to clarify the situation, stating, “No, he didn’t, you buffoons,” in response to an erroneous headline suggesting Trump supported allowing Iran to strike these cities. The account insisted he was emphasizing the U.S. efforts to prevent Iran from having the capacity to do so.
Despite the White House’s attempts to provide full context, Democrats and mainstream media picked up on Trump’s comments widely. On ABC’s The View, co-host Sunny Hostin labeled the president as “deranged,” implying it might be time to consider invoking the 25th Amendment.
In a post on social media, Newsom remarked, “After sending the National Guard and Marines to occupy California, Donald Trump is now saying our foreign enemies should ‘take out’ Los Angeles and San Diego. He is deranged and dangerous.”
He also criticized Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, stating, “The SILENCE from JD Vance and Marco Rubio today is deafening.”
Fox News reported that this isn’t the first time Newsom has called for the 25th Amendment regarding Trump. Back in July, he suggested Trump’s comments on election integrity represented a “legitimate 25th Amendment moment,” describing them as “the rambling of a mad king.”
