Newsom’s Critique of Vance
California Governor Gavin Newsom recently expressed concerns in an interview about Vice President J.D. Vance, stating he could actually be more “dangerous” in a political context than former President Donald Trump. In the interview with MS NOW host Jen Psaki, they discussed various candidates who might assume Republican leadership positions, including Vance and Marco Rubio. Newsom responded, “No, but Vance somehow scares me,” and added a whimsical remark about a mask—an unclear metaphor.
Newsom pointed out that Vance and Rubio have shifted from being some of Trump’s harshest critics to becoming his staunchest supporters. He criticized Vance directly, labeling him a “fraud” and a “charlatan,” and suggested there’s something particularly unsettling about him that goes beyond typical political maneuvers.
“He’s a unique con artist,” Newsom stated, and he expressed concern about the influences surrounding Vance. According to Newsom, the people around Vance exhibit a kind of nihilism, reflective of their perspectives on the world. “I know them literally,” he emphasized, hinting at a personal familiarity with these individuals.
Despite his apprehensions about Vance, Newsom implied that Trump is unlikely to step down from power easily. He predicted that Trump would delay appointing a successor, preferring to control the situation until the very end rather than allowing his allies to emerge independently.
Newsom’s comments suggest a complex view of the dynamics within the Republican Party, especially regarding Vance’s potential influence and Trump’s lingering grip on power. He articulated a discomforting scenario where Trump endeavors to maintain his authority in a way that complicates the future for other candidates.
Fox News Digital reached out for comments from Vance and Rubio but did not receive a response at the time of reporting.
