California grandfather killed in car accident at Walmart parking lot when trying to apologize

A California grandfather was shot and killed in a minor fender bender in a Walmart parking lot. She was allegedly trying to apologize when her beloved grandpa was shot after a car accident in which her injuries were minimal.

Around 8 p.m. on February 5, 59-year-old Jonathan Mauk went to a Walmart in Highland, Calif., to buy supplies to make beef jerky.

Mauk’s custom-built 1998 Chevrolet Camaro Super Sport briefly collided with another vehicle that was backing up in the parking lot.

She has pleaded not guilty to all charges, according to court records. Norton remains held at the West Valley Detention Center without bail.

Police said the damage was minor, with only a scratch or two.

“There’s a scratch on the fender. There’s no dent, there’s no actual damage. There’s a scratch,” Matthew Mauk said. “That was the impact that killed him.”
