An armed California homeowner opened fire on a group of would-be burglars who broke into his home in an affluent Los Angeles neighborhood on Monday, police said.
Police said at least two suspects broke into a home in the San Fernando Valley neighborhood of Valley Village around 3 p.m. when the homeowner confronted the suspects and opened fire, shooting one of the gunmen twice with a semi-automatic handgun.
The other suspect quickly fled the scene before police arrived.

Police found the 25-year-old suspect injured inside a home in the 11600 block of Addison Avenue, and the homeowner, who was alone inside at the time, was also injured, Los Angeles Police Department Capt. Kelly Muniz said at a news conference Monday.
Muniz did not say how the homeowner was injured but said she was taken to a local hospital and that she believes the home was randomly targeted.
The injured suspect, whose identity has not been released, was taken to hospital in serious condition. It is unclear whether the intruder was armed.
“Two suspects entered a residence where an occupant was present,” Muniz said, “The occupant had a handgun and fired shots at the potential burglars who were inside the home.”

“I can’t confirm if there was a physical altercation, [homeowner] He was injured during the incident and taken to hospital.”
Muniz said the suspect on the run is an African-American man in his early 20s.
Police set up a perimeter in the neighborhood and urged residents to stay indoors while they search for the remaining suspects. Fox 11 I will report.
Muniz said robberies are on the rise across the city of Los Angeles.

“Going forward, your best defense is knowing your neighbors, knowing who’s around and making sure your windows are locked,” Muniz said. “As the weather gets warmer and warmer, leaving your windows open makes it easier for burglars to get in, so just being aware of those precautions is a good thing.”
In April, a homeowner shot and killed a would-be burglar inside his gated home in Newport Beach, on California’s coast.
