The owner of a well-known pro-Trump home in Southern California has passed away after suffering injuries from a violent attack last week.
Authorities reported on Sunday that 69-year-old Kelly Sheron succumbed to his injuries after being hospitalized in critical condition. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Sheron lived in Escondido, where his home was adorned with American flags and pro-Trump decorations.
The attack took place right outside Sheron’s property, which has faced numerous complaints and acts of vandalism over the years.
Deputy District Attorney Ross Garcia detailed the brutal incident involving 32-year-old Thomas Caleb Butler. According to Garcia, Sheron was struck in the jaw, fell down, and Butler continued to hit him repeatedly.
After a short search, Butler was arrested without resistance and charged with attempted murder. The San Diego County District Attorney’s Office is currently reviewing the situation to see if any additional charges are warranted.
Butler’s acquaintances mentioned that he was a Navy veteran suffering from PTSD.
Reports indicated that Butler might have been experiencing a mental health crisis, with a friend stating he believed others were after him, despite being on medication.
On Wednesday afternoon, police responded to an assault report near the intersection close to Sheron’s home. Sheron was located with severe injuries, and a bystander who intervened during the altercation was also hurt.
Maria Garcia, Sheron’s wife, shared her belief that the assault was politically motivated and expressed her sorrow, saying she had little hope for her husband’s recovery.
In a heartfelt statement, she remarked, “He tried to kill my husband. It’s terrible. I don’t know what kind of hatred there is…what kind of black heart.” She voiced frustration over the apparent disdain for American symbols, adding, “I support America. My husband is a veteran.”
