The fleeing California prisoner wanted to kill the leader of the Mexican elite police force when he died in Tijuana, Mexico.
Cesar Hernandez, 34, was arrested Thursday by the Mexican state investigator.
Hernandez was sought in connection with the shooting death of 33-year-old Abigail Esparza Reyes, the leader of the Mexican police force, which aims to capture suspects of a Mexican fugitive.
Esparza Reyes was killed in a shooting battle in Tijuana on April 9th while the unit was about to arrest Hernandez.
“These actions reflect outstanding intelligence and investigative work carried out by staff at the state Attorney General’s Office, and their coordinated efforts, tactical analysis strategies and data collection allowed us to accurately find the person arrested today,” the Baja California Prosecutor said in a statement after his arrest on Friday.
“The state prosecutor’s office reaffirms and reaffirms its commitment to paying for anyone in Baja California,” the statement added.
Mexican officials said Hernandez is facing a criminal case and “his legal situation is held to be governed by law.”
Hernandez spent 80 years living on the possibility of parole in California before fleeing custody on December 2nd.
He was Taken to the Superior Court of Cahn County In Delano, he appeared in court when he ran out of the van.
He was detained at the Caen Valley State Jail in Delano before fleeing.
He was handed over from Los Angeles County to Kern County in 2019.
