A group of men on bicycles surrounded a liquor store employee in Oakland, California, taking turns slapping and punching him, until the employee eventually pulled out a gun and turned the tide.
of New York Post Published Video of the Aug. 28, 2024 incident indicates the incident occurred on Saturday, Aug. 24, outside Golden Hours Liquor Store.
According to post“A mob of laughing bicyclists attacked employees of a California liquor store, resulting in a chaotic scene captured on video as the employees pointed guns at the attackers, screaming and fleeing.”
The video shows the employee walking toward one of the bicyclists surrounding him, only to be struck from behind in the neck and then in the head.
Soon “dozens of men attacked the worker,” who was able to pull out his handgun and end the attack.
NBC Bay Area Commented The department noted that in the incident, the employee who drew his gun said he only did so because he feared someone off-camera tugged on his belt during the assault, causing the handgun to fall out of his pants.
“He pulled my belt pretty hard and the gun nearly fell out of my pants, so I pulled it out and supported him and supported everybody,” the employee said.
NBC Bay Area noted that the incident “raises questions and concerns about how Oakland's crime has gotten worse and how residents should respond to it.”
