The sanctuary state of California may soon offer discounted cell phone service to low-income foreigners without Social Security numbers (SSNs), including illegal immigrants.
a suggestion This was before the California Public Utilities Commission opened up the state's “Lifeline” program, which subsidizes phone bills for low-income Californians, to residents without Social Security numbers, including undocumented immigrants.
“…the California Universal Lifeline Telephone Service Program (California Lifeline) should expand eligibility to Californians who do not have a Social Security Number (SSN ). This action establishes a process for Californians who do not have an SSN to enroll in California Lifeline,” the proposal states.
The move comes as Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom Rejected A bill that would allow illegal immigrants to buy homes in California using state taxpayer money.
But last year, Governor Newsom expanded state taxpayer-funded health insurance to undocumented immigrants living in California, making it the first state in the U.S. to do so. It is expected that about 1.2 million undocumented immigrants will eventually have subsidized health insurance.
Today is 4.7 million Illegal immigrants and their U.S.-born children reside in California.
