Southern California Sheriff Issued a warning and against those who took part in illegal street occupations after 56 people were arrested in connection with the vandalism of a police vehicle.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said officers from Highland Station were responding to a call when they encountered “Sideshow” in the street near Highland and Victoria streets.
“Such reckless behaviour will not be tolerated.”
Police ordered people to disperse, but they instead attacked and vandalised police patrol cars.

Police said their investigation led them to identify a car club involved in the hijackings and sideshows, with participants posting videos on social media that showed them driving stolen vehicles and showing off firearms during the incidents.
Investigators obtained a search warrant and seized a stolen Dodge Hellcat and several firearms.
Police said they worked with members of multiple law enforcement agencies to organize “Operation Consequences” on June 1. Police busted a group of car club members who were using an abandoned building to practice takeover tactics. Police arrested people who tried to flee the location.
“If this street occupation continues, arrests will certainly be made and cars will be seized.”
Of the 56 people arrested, 37 were adults and 19 were juveniles, according to the sheriff’s office.
“This type of reckless behavior will not be tolerated in San Bernardino County. If the street occupation continues, arrests will be made and vehicles will be impounded.” Said San Bernardino County Sheriff Shannon Dicus.
Street hijacking and sideshows have become a growing problem across the United States, with some cases turning fatal. In one incident in January 2023, a 13-year-old boy was killed when he was hit by a motorcycle traveling over 100 mph during an illegal street hijacking in St. Petersburg, Florida. Police arrested the boy’s father, who had taken him to the race, on suspicion of negligence.
