Protests in California Result in Injuries During Clash with Law Enforcement

A protest outside a federal building in California on Tuesday erupted into violence, leaving several individuals injured. The demonstration was held in response to the death of Renee Nicole Good in Minnesota.

Protesters burned American flags and shouted through megaphones, expressing their anger. The Department of Homeland Security reported that a man was shot in the eye with a crowd control weapon after lunging at officers while attempting to help someone else. Additionally, two officers sustained injuries during the incident.

Most of the protesters had left the area when the most intense confrontations began. A smaller group, organized by a faction called “Challenge to Struggle,” remained and faced off against law enforcement clad in riot gear.

Footage from the scene shows that, at one moment, police were pushing protesters back toward the building’s stairway. Despite commands to move back, the group continued their chants as officers advanced. Subsequently, police began to fire projectiles as they approached the crowd.

The protester who took charge of the megaphone was later identified as Kayden Ramler, 21. During the chaos, he was hit in the eye by a projectile. Video evidence captured him falling to the ground before being pulled into the federal building, where authorities eventually took him into custody.

Ramler’s aunt, Jeri Reese, reported that her nephew lost vision in his left eye and underwent six hours of surgery to remove projectile fragments from his eye. She expressed concern about his condition, stating, “He has holes in his eyeballs,” and remarked on the gravity of the situation, mentioning that he was left “completely blind” in that eye.

Ramler has since been charged with disorderly conduct, while at least one other individual involved was charged with assault on a federal officer.
