California Democrats are “insane” for passing a progressive bill that would give undocumented immigrants subsidies of up to $150,000 to help them buy their first home, an official said.
The bill, AB 1840, would add to the California Housing Finance Agency's Home Buying Assistance Program, or California Dream for All Program, by: Illegal immigration application.
The bill passed the state Senate on Tuesday.

California Assembly Republican Representative James Gallagher (R-Yuba City) said in a statement to Fox News Digital that the bill would exacerbate California's border crisis, housing crisis and rising cost of living.

“I didn't know that one vote could make the border crisis and housing crisis worse, but Democrats found a way,” Gallagher said. “Giving taxpayer-funded housing subsidies to illegal immigrants will drive up costs even more and cause even more chaos at the border.”
“This is madness and it needs to stop,” he said.

The California Dream for All program passed despite running out of funds just 11 days after it was launched in June. The program had provided grants to 1,700 first-time homebuyers at the time. Finding more funding for the program was a major concern during the legislative debate.
The program will grant first-time homebuyers up to 20% of the home's value, or up to $150,000. Down Payment AssistanceThe bill now heads back to the California Assembly for possible amendments by the state Senate.

The bill passed along party lines, with 12 votes to the tune of 23 to 11. Some Democrats in attendance did not vote.

California Governor Gavin Newsom He has not said whether he will sign the bill into law if it passes the House by the Aug. 31 deadline.
A spokesperson for Governor Newsom said in a statement to Fox News Digital that the California governor will evaluate the bill once it reaches his desk.
