California teacher gets placed on leave after sexual abuse allegations arise

A California teacher is set to lose his job after two former students came forward to accuse him of sexual abuse.

Steve Graves, 61, a Lexington Middle School band director, is accused of sexually abusing two students in the 1980s. The Anaheim Union High School District (AUHSD) recently announced that school officials have begun the process of firing Graves. Graves is currently on administrative leave.

Manley, Stewart & Finardi, the law firm representing both victims, told Fox News Digital that the abuse began in 1986, when Greive was a teacher at Loara High School in Anaheim. Greive would have been around 23 or 24 years old at the time.

Both women were 16 years old when they were sexually abused. One of the victims, who asked to only identify herself as Reiko, told FOX 11 Los Angeles that she gave birth to Graves' child when she was 17.

After she became pregnant and gave birth, Reiko transferred to a different school. Nearly 40 years later, she got in touch with the other victim through social media, and the two began sharing their experiences.

The Anaheim Police Department is involved in the investigation, but no charges have been filed against Greive. The women plan to file a civil lawsuit against Greive.

Attorney Morgan Stewart told FOX11 Los Angeles that his boss ” [Graves] “He was a predator, yet we continued to employ him for more than 30 years,” they claim, but have not released any evidence to support their claim.

In a statement shared with Fox News Digital, AUHSD said it was “shocked, saddened and upset” to learn of the “credible allegations.”

“Once the district learned of the situation in late August, Mr. Graves was placed on administrative leave and removed from campus,” the statement added. “AUHSD is fully cooperating with the Anaheim Police Department's investigation of this incident and is identifying other instances of possible inappropriate behavior, harassment and sexual misconduct by Mr. Graves.”
