California wildfires threaten Sandra Lee’s new dream home post Cuomo split, cancer battle

Sandra Lee is not one to experience heartbreak.

From the death of her beloved aunt and uncle, who served as parental figures to her, to her breakup with former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, to her battle with breast cancer, the Food Network star has proven her resilience time and time again. I've proven it. Now, Lee, who was evacuated from her Malibu home by the Los Angeles wildfires on Tuesday, could face another loss.

On January 7, Ms Lee shared horrifying footage of fire scorching the hills surrounding her and her home.

“My Malibu home got me through some of the darkest moments of my life,” she wrote in the caption. “I loved creating it, decorating it, building it, caring for it, protecting it. I have cherished every moment I spent with it. As the fire approached, I I pray for it – I pray for everyone in Los Angeles. This is a very scary moment for my community.”

“When fires arrive on our doorsteps, please keep in touch with each other. Communities are our lifeblood at times like these,” she added. “We're all safe, but the fire is inching closer to my paradise in Malibu. When I was a waitress at the Malibu Adobe in 1989, I dreamed of a house like this (for me). ), and worked hard for it. I'm sad, but I send all my love to all the first responders and firefighters who are literally doing everything they can to keep us safe!!!”

The next day, Ms Lee told her followers in an emotional video posted on Twitter that her home was “gone”. Instagram.

“Thank you for everyone's prayers. I'm trying to process all of this… I'm just so grateful that we're all okay,” a visibly shaken Lee said in the video. “My home is gone – I cried all night and thought about every corner of the room. It was perfect and now it’s just Ash. Our community, our firefighters, our first responders. Please keep everyone in your prayers. This is not over – not even close.”

But on Thursday, Lee said she had received conflicting reports and was unsure whether her home would survive.

“Last night I was told that my house had been destroyed by fire. I couldn't sleep all night. I was crying and thinking about it. I got a call from my real estate agent an hour ago saying that my house had been destroyed by fire. “It was still there, just like my neighbor's house,” she wrote on Instagram. “I got a call from a close friend in the neighborhood who said he drove by the house and they were both gone. Everything was gone!”

“I got a call from my insurance broker saying I can't even go out on the street and no one can come into PCH,” she continued. “I haven't been home for two days now. I have no idea what's going on. This is the most stressful thing and I'm just trying to calm down, but I'm so lost. I can't see.” My home I don't know if it's a friend's or family member's house or my own. ”

The “Semi-Homemade Cooking with Sandra Lee” star was diagnosed with breast cancer, specifically ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), in 2015. She underwent a double mastectomy and then a total hysterectomy.

Four years later, she faced an even harder battle when she parted ways with Mr. Cuomo after 14 years. they never married.

Last year, Lee spoke about the moment she knew her relationship was over.

However, Lee declined to share details of the comments he made in spring 2019.

Mr. Lee did not reveal many details about his breakup with Mr. Cuomo, choosing to keep the information private.

In June 2023, Ms. Lee announced the deaths of her aunt Peggy and uncle Bill, who had been parental figures to her since she was a teenager.

“This is the saddest thing [sic] I'll write it someday. My wonderful Uncle Bill passed away. He was a father to me, my only real father,” Lee wrote. Instagram At the time, there was a photo of her uncle next to the merry-go-round.

Lee said she lived with her uncle and aunt “sometimes” as a baby, but her bond with them only grew stronger as she grew older.

“My uncle was my mentor, my protector, my organizer, my confidant, and my best friend,” she continued. “When I was nice, he smiled, but when I was naughty, he burst out laughing. I could always be myself, and he liked me best, with all my flaws and imperfections.”

The next day, Lee revealed that her aunt had died five months before her uncle.

“Why did they both leave,” Lee wrote. Instagram at that time. “One day she was here and the next day she wasn't here.”

Through all the trials and tribulations, Lee said the last 10 years have made her “smarter and stronger.”

“I have come to terms with the fact that I will never recover from the heartache of the past 10 years of loss,” Lee told Us Weekly. “The grief will never end, but I will feed on it and feed on it to become wiser and stronger.

“I think it was the most difficult 10 years of my life.”
