A California woman is facing charges after 27 dead horses were found on multiple properties in a Sacramento suburb, police said.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office announced late Wednesday that the animal was found in Clements when law enforcement executed a search warrant in connection with an “ongoing animal neglect investigation.”
“During the work, several malnourished horses were discovered on the property with limited access to food and water, and approximately 27 dead horses were discovered,” the report said.
“Animal services personnel and a veterinarian on scene immediately began triage and assessed the horse's condition,” police added. “After thorough testing, 16 horses were rescued and are now being cared for by experts at Oakdale Equine Rescue to ensure they receive proper nutrition, medical care and rehabilitation.
