A woman from California has been found guilty of aiding hundreds of undocumented immigrants in acquiring green cards by fabricating medical records without a doctor’s consent, according to prosecutors.
Chantellar Banu Woods, who hails from San Luis Obispo County, was charged with one count of providing false immigration documents and another charge related to the planned distribution of Fendimetrazine, as stated by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Central District of California.
The 54-year-old operated a clinic named “Medical Weight Loss and Immigration Services,” which became a central hub for her activities in February 2021.
Reports indicate that one of the doctors whose credentials Woods misused for the bogus medical examination documents was already deceased.
Additionally, she confessed to ordering over 150,000 tablets of controlled substances like testosterone, codeine, Xanax, and various weight loss medications, utilizing the deceased physician’s Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration number.
In her plea, Woods acknowledged falsifying the forms for 328 immigrants, charging $450 for each.
Federal law mandates that immigrants applying for a green card must undergo a medical examination performed by a licensed doctor, who then provides a signed form confirming the examination and the information supplied by the applicant.
This illegal activity by Woods occurred until June 2022, according to the law firm.
She was subsequently released on a $10,000 bond and is awaiting a sentencing hearing set for July 31.
