A striking music video portraying California as a dystopian world rife with corruption and ineffective political leadership has captured the attention of social media users, going viral in the process.

It was created by Miguel Fornia and features a satirical take on Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, with visuals of gang members setting cars ablaze, all set to a rendition of The Mamas and the Papas’ classic, “California Dreamin’.”

The lyrics of the song critique Newsom’s actions regarding the Palisade fire, with lines like, “Corruption at its peak, a display of exaggeration.” It also features figures like disgraced congressman Eric Swalwell, Rep. Maxine Waters, and Sen. Adam Schiff.

This video doesn’t shy away from poking fun at a range of controversial policies, one being the exorbitant cost of the state’s high-speed rail project, which has ballooned to an astonishing $231 billion.

As the lyrics play, they paint a picture of a community in decline, touching on the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles. In a surreal twist, former President Donald Trump appears in the video, playing the flute against a backdrop of iconic California landmarks like Disneyland and the Golden Gate Bridge. The video wraps up with a bizarre depiction of the late Senator Dianne Feinstein as a talking skeleton, expressing, “I’m so sorry.”

Musk called the video a “Banger,” and some viewers reacted strongly, with one commenting on the state of their hometown, saying, “It makes me sick. I don’t think I can ever go home again.
