It’s tough to say, but maybe it’s time for Curtis Sliwa to confront the situation and consider stepping back from the New York mayoral race. His point about the city’s predicament is valid—it’s not solely his fault that things have reached this state. However, blaming anyone isn’t the main concern here.
The reality is that he’s trailing significantly in the polls, landing firmly in third place, and the chances of him winning look, well, nonexistent. According to the latest surveys, if Sliwa were to withdraw, Andrew Cuomo might narrowly take the lead over Zoran Mamdani. If Curtis stays in, and Cuomo ends up losing, the fallout could very well be directed at him.
It’s worth noting that Bill Ackman voiced his concerns about the race, suggesting if Sliwa remains, “we’re toast.”
Many may not like this viewpoint, and that’s perfectly understandable. No one should misinterpret this as a fanbase for Cuomo, not at all.
In challenging times, it’s crucial to reckon with the facts as they stand, even if they’re uncomfortable. We don’t mean to disrespect Sliwa in any way, but if the Republican Party wants to genuinely contend against the Democrats for city positions, they’ve got to step up their game.
Sliwa has put in significant effort throughout this campaign, staying informed about the issues and actively engaging with the public, proudly donning his red beret. Still, I think it’s fair to say that despite his unique personality and some questionable past decisions, many Republican leaders continue to back him. Yet, if Republicans had chosen a candidate with a more conventional profile, perhaps they wouldn’t be facing such critics now.
Unfortunately, Mamdani is positioned to win and possibly cause considerable harm to the city, which is quite alarming. It’s essential he is stopped.
Curtis, I know how much you care about this city, but sometimes, one must take a tough pill to swallow for the greater good.
