Cam Newton apologizes for involvement in wild brawl

Cam Newton has apologized for his involvement in an altercation at a 7-on-7 youth football tournament, saying he partially “let emotions get the best of me.”

In a video posted Thursday to his “4th&1” program’s YouTube channel, the veteran NFL quarterback apologized to “everyone affected” by the recent events in Atlanta that went viral over the weekend. .

“That shouldn’t have been called for. It’s simple. And I apologize to everyone who was affected,” Newton said, referring to the players, parents and staff. According to ESPN.

Footage of Newton fighting off individuals at the tournament surfaced on social media on Sunday, with several men appearing to push the former Panthers quarterback from the “C1N” team, who were participating in the event.

Authorities said in a police report that it was unclear what sparked the scuffle and that no one involved wanted criminal charges filed.

Newton said he regrets letting down those who looked up to him.

“You can’t sit there and say, ‘Hey, brother, you need to be bigger.’ And suddenly doing that just shows that you have to be in control all the time.” Per ESPN said Newton.

“…There’s no excuse, there really isn’t.”

Newton, the No. 1 overall pick in 2011, spent much of his career with the Panthers and reached the Super Bowl with the team at the end of the 2015 season.
