Kam Skatebo might be reconsidering that decision.
During Fanatics Fest on Saturday, the second-year running back for the Giants, currently recovering from a dislocated ankle and a fractured tibia, hit the WWE stage where fans could mimic their favorite wrestler’s entrance.
Skatebo chose Triple H and the entrance music “The Game” by Motörhead but decided, perhaps a bit impulsively, to improvise.
He pointed to his injured leg and attempted a backflip.
It didn’t end well; he didn’t manage to land it, despite the short distance.
He fell awkwardly, and one can almost picture the fans in the audience gasping in horror.
Nevertheless, the 24-year-old quickly got up, exclaiming in excitement as he tried to downplay the mishap.
During a panel discussion at Fanatics Fest on Sunday, he reflected on the moment. “In the air, I thought, ‘Oh no, I can’t land this, it’s too high.’ It worked out, but the landing was all cushion. I mean, it wasn’t solid ground,” he explained. “I got up and left just fine, so I guess it was nothing major.”
Backflips, after all, are his trademark. He’s known for bringing high energy to the locker room and being outspoken. But with the new season approaching and his recovery still in progress, perhaps this wasn’t the smartest idea.
After the incident, social media users speculated about Giants head coach John Harbaugh’s probable reaction. One commentator suggested, “If I were Harbaugh, I’d consider fining Skatebo. It’s reckless with the season coming up.”
Despite the tumble, Skatebo remains committed to his high-energy persona. He stated in June that he has no plans to tone things down.
“This won’t change who I am,” Skatebo maintained. “I got hurt, but it is what it is. I’ve got a lot more football ahead of me and plenty of life to live. I won’t let this ankle issue hold me back.”
“I’ll be back,” he added. “You can see in the video, I run over people. From now on, I’ll be the same old Kam Skatebo.”
Drafted in the fourth round from Arizona State, Skatebo quickly made a name for himself as a standout player and fan favorite.
Unfortunately, his rookie season was cut short in Week 8 due to a severe injury against the Eagles in Philadelphia.
During his brief time on the field, he amassed 410 rushing yards with five touchdowns and 207 receiving yards with two touchdown receptions.
